The jointly provided Scholarship Programmes of the World Bank and Japan is disbursed together as the JJ /WBGSP, Scholarship which are for citizens of the participating Low-income developed countries willing to pursue a Master’s degree for the betterment of their country.

Application Deadlines

The deadlines set for the JJ/WBGSP are different. The application process is organized into two windows to accommodate the academic calendars of participating programs:

Application Window #1:

January 15 to February 29, 2024, at 12:00 P.M. Eastern Standard Time
Shortlisted candidates will be called and the winners will be declared by the end of March 2024.

Application Window #2:

March 25 to May 24, 2024, including (12:00noon EST)
Shortlisted candidates will be released at the end of June 2024.

Program Details

The JJ/WBGSP provides scholarships for 53 partner universities’ master programs in the United States of America, Europe, Africa, American Section, Japan and Oceania. It has established programs that mainly address areas of development within the sectors of the economy like economic policy, taxation policy and infrastructural policy among others.

Note: It is necessary to point out that only the participants of one of the offered master’s programs could apply for the scholarship.

Application Process

The link to the JJ/WBGSP application form is given only to those students who are selected as eligible by the affiliated universities. Students should consult with the university of their choice offering their course of interest on the admission requirements.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the JJ/WBGSP, applicants must: To be eligible for the JJ/WBGSP, applicants must:
1. Reside in a World Bank member developing country and be a national of such country.
2. Be free from any dual citizenship with any developed country.
3. Be in good health.
4. Possess an academic degree of at least a bachelor’s (or any equivalent) obtained at least three years before the application deadline.
5. Currently be working in development-related employment, in a paid, full-time position when the application is submitted.
6. Possess not less than three years of paid employment in the field of development gained in the last six years.

7. Be admitted without condition (other than financial) to at least one of the preferred programs at a member university in a country other than his/her citizenship or country of residence.
8. Cannot be relatives to the members of the board or the staff of the World Bank Group.

Note: Every criterion is rigidly implemented and they don’t vary at all even throughout the time of advertisement for the various positions.

Selection Process

Each eligible application is reviewed by two independent assessors who score it based on four main factors: Each eligible application is reviewed by two independent assessors who score it based on four main factors:
1. Quality of Professional Experience occupies the stake of 30%.
2. Quality of recommendations given by the professionals (30%)
3. P3 – Quality of commitment to the Home country is an essential criterion that contributes a whooping percentage of 30% towards the overall rating.
4. The capability and experience of the applicant’s educational background (10%)

The candidates’ average score is taken into consideration to determine the finalists with a special focus on geographic and gender balance as well as any extraordinary circumstances and documents proving their financial situation.

Scholarship Benefits

The JJ/WBGSP scholarship includes:
• International economy flight from the home country to the host university.
• The cost of the graduate program tuition.
• The insurance which is acquired through the university and aimed at providing minimal coverage.
• Living expenses and for purchase of books and expenses vary according to the country of host (monthly subsistence allowance).
Note: The amount of the scholarship is for the period of the graduate program or two years whichever is lesser.

Non-Covered Expenses

The scholarship does not cover: The scholarship does not cover:
• Visa application costs.
• Family member support.
• Organized activities that do not form part of the normal curriculum.
• Some of the issues that might affect efficiency include the following; In this case, it was courses that did not cover the minimum credit hours.
• Subsidiary travels during the study program.
• Any publications, quite similar to brain, thereby excluding research or educational materials.
• Resident permit fees.
